Ruth is a retired veteran teacher with teaching experience in Home Ec and art at Pella Christion and Newton. She has work experience in the business, real estate, retail and insurance fields as well. She received her BS from Central College and her MST from Drake University. While teaching she was awarded a teaching internship with the Maytag Corp and an Exchange trip to Taiwan to visit sister schools and former exchange students. She tutored many students as well and now substitute teaches.
She and her husband both grew up on farms outside of Prairie City and were high school sweethearts. They have two married children and five grandchildren whose activities keep them busy (not to mention two cats and a kitten at home.) She enjoys camping, decorating, reading and gardening and preserves many quarts of produce each year. She also enjoys Bible studies and sewing, especially with vintage patterns and fabrics.
Ruth has worked at various positions in her daughter’s optometry practice since it opened in Clive. She currently works in the office at least one day a week and works remotely as well.
